Life is not always about professional responsibilities, academic commitments and daily routines. Sometimes, taking a short break and spending quality time amidst nature with colleagues can bring happiness, peace and unforgettable memories. On 2 November 2026, I had the wonderful opportunity to visit the beautiful natural surroundings of Chitrakonda in the Malkangiri district of Odisha along with my respected Principal and colleagues from Government Degree College, Chitrakonda. Our small journey to Mati Dam, located near Pilbai Dam, became a memorable experience filled with natural beauty, friendship, laughter and togetherness. The visit was particularly special because we were accompanied by our respected Principal, Dr. Chinmay Kumar Behera, along with Dr. Rama Chandra Krisani, Mr. Kuna Madhi and myself, Dr. Jyotiranjan Gudia.

On 2 November 2026, considering the impact of Cyclone 'Murasu' in the Malkangiri district, holidays had been declared for educational institutions, including colleges. After completing our respective official responsibilities at Government Degree College, Chitrakonda, we decided to spend some time enjoying the beautiful natural surroundings of the area. We headed towards Mati Dam near Pilbai Dam, accompanied by our respected Principal, Dr. Chinmay Kumar Behera, Dr. Rama Chandra Krisani and Mr. Kuna Madhi. It was a wonderful opportunity to step away from our regular academic responsibilities and enjoy a refreshing experience in the lap of nature. Sometimes, even a short journey with good people can become one of the most beautiful memories of life.

Chitrakonda is well known for its beautiful natural landscape, surrounded by green hills, dense vegetation, forests and water bodies. The region of Malkangiri possesses remarkable natural beauty and Chitrakonda is one of its attractive destinations. As we reached Mati Dam, we were welcomed by the refreshing atmosphere and the beautiful greenery surrounding the area. The green hills, trees, plants and peaceful natural environment created a wonderful landscape. One of the most interesting attractions during our visit was the opening of the dam gates. As the water level was sufficiently high, the gates were open, allowing water to flow out of the reservoir. Watching the water discharge through the dam gates was an exciting and memorable experience. The continuous flow of water, together with the surrounding hills and greenery, created a beautiful natural scene. It was a wonderful opportunity to observe the beauty and movement of water up close and capture those special moments through our cameras. For me, this place was not simply a water reservoir. It was a beautiful reminder of the extraordinary relationship between nature, water, hills and human life.

A positive working environment is essential for every institution. Good relationships among colleagues, mutual respect, cooperation and understanding make professional life more meaningful. As teachers, we remain engaged in classroom teaching, academic activities, administrative responsibilities and the overall development of students. Our daily responsibilities often keep us occupied. However, moments like this provide an opportunity to relax, interact with one another and strengthen professional relationships beyond the classroom. During our visit, we enjoyed friendly conversations, shared smiles, appreciated the natural beauty and captured some memorable photographs together. The presence of our respected Principal, Dr. Chinmay Kumar Behera, made the occasion even more special.

Our respected Principal, Dr. Chinmay Kumar Behera, is an enthusiastic, cooperative and approachable academic leader. His positive attitude, friendly nature and willingness to interact with colleagues create an encouraging atmosphere within the institution. As the Principal of Government Degree College, Chitrakonda, his responsibilities include guiding the institution towards academic progress and creating a supportive educational environment for students and faculty members. What I particularly appreciate is his cooperative approach and his ability to maintain friendly relationships with colleagues. A good leader does not simply provide instructions; a good leader inspires others through positive thinking, behaviour, encouragement and personal involvement. Spending time with him and our fellow colleagues outside the college environment was truly a pleasant experience. I would also like to acknowledge the companionship of Dr. Rama Chandra Krisani and Mr. Kuna Madhi, whose presence made this short outing more enjoyable.

Nature has a unique ability to refresh our minds and bring peace to our lives. Spending time among green hills, trees, flowing water and fresh surroundings helps us temporarily forget our everyday worries and responsibilities. Similarly, spending quality time with colleagues outside the workplace strengthens mutual understanding and creates a sense of belonging. For teachers and academic professionals, maintaining a healthy balance between professional responsibilities and personal well-being is equally important. Our visit to Mati Dam reminded me that happiness is often found in simple experiences: travelling together, sharing conversations, enjoying natural beauty and creating memories with good people.
