All our friends were really good. I had a good relationship with almost all of them. Some of them took great care of younger students, some sang very well, and some were active volunteers. But I was good at drawing and painting. Both boys and girls were my good friends. I mingled well with everyone. Among the boys, my close friends included Mohan, Santosh, Loknath, Bapi, Jitendra, Debi Prasad, Sameer, Kahnu, Kartik, Balaram, Krishna, Lakshman, Gopal, Ashish, Manas, Shiva, Sarbeswar, Krishna Bhuya, Sahadev, Subash, Raju, Mahendra. Among the girls, my good friends were Gouri, Rashmi, Sagarika, Shanti, Ruchika, Sasmita, Tula, Meera, Lalita, Saudhamini, Nisha, and many others. Whenever we got a break to play, we used to gather and enjoy playing kabaddi, football, volleyball, and hide-and-seek together. Santosh (Biju)’s mother used to send me different types of pithas (traditional cakes) during festivals. Some of my girl-friends like Gouri, Nisha, Sagarika, and Shanti would often bring homemade achar (pickles) to school and share them with me. When we were in Class 7, we had to appear for the Board Examination, which was required back then. After we passed Class 7, the Class 7 Board Exam system was discontinued. The photo shown above was taken just a few days before that board exam. In that photo, we are accompanied by our respected teachers- Pratap Kurmar Rath (music teacher), Uma Shankar Das, Debendra Kumar Bala, Maheswar Maharana, Keshab Chandra Pradhan (head teacher), Priyambada Raut, Bada Didi, Alakananda Mahalik, Santosh Kumar Mahuri Sir, and other madams. Those days are etched in my memory as some of the most joyful moments of my life. We didn’t have smartphones or the internet, but we had real connections, laughter, and pure friendship. I still remember the smell of classroom chalk, the sound of the school bell, and the excitement of tiffin breaks. Even now, whenever I see my old classmates or look at that photograph, it brings a smile to my face and fills my heart with nostalgia. Our school was not just a place for learning but a place where lifelong memories were made.
